How many of you are sitting behind your computer or phone reading this, are self conscious about your body and are afraid to go into the real world. Or the girls that envied other girls while they watch them walk by. We all have these problems or at least I do. Everyday I wish I looked like someone else or that I didn't have thunder thighs (who in the world came up with that...it's so sad we used this to describe parts of our body.) I wish my acne would just vanish. It goes something like this..."Ugh look how pretty she is" or "I wish I was as skinner as her!" What I do is sickening and disgusting. This is probably the worst thing I do "Well at least I'm skinner than her." We compare each other every single day, but maybe you don't fall into the same trap I do. Maybe you don't have any problems with your body image, yet maybe your problems are falling between your family, friends, work, loneliness, or depression. I have no clue, but know we are all here for you. We all fall into these weaknesses somehow and we do it far to often. We all need to stop for a second, and see how Jesus looks at us.
1. You need to know you are more than the person looking in that mirror after a hard day. While looking in that mirror, you are thinking negative thoughts about yourself. Each and everyone of you are worth so much than you give your self credit for. This quote is from the book Her, "It's not her shape, her face, or her hair that makes her beautiful. Neither is it the smoothness of her skin, the boldness when she stands or the perseverance in her heart, but the gratitude she lives by and her love for god. (HER. pg.15) If you haven't read Her, I recommend you do.
2. Sadly, we all do this every day. We are constantly comparing ourselves to each other. Some of us do this way more often than others. In our society it is normal, but what is considered the norm isn't always correct.
I relate this to the makeup I use every single day. When I go out in public I have to put on foundation and mascara and all that other crazy awesome stuff because I'm scared people will see how I really look under the makeup. Can you see how I relate this to ur hearts. Each day I put up a fake wall (makeup), so people won't see what I really look like. On the outside we pretend how happy, smiley and painted- not the real me we all are. On the inside I'm broken and jealous and not that perfect picture that I seem to paint. On the inside I don't have my life together. I'm a crazy mess. This all relates to how our hearts work.
3. We all need to see ourselves for how God sees us. We can't do this if we are so focused on our perfect body's, our flawless skin, or diets. The only way to see ourselves how God does is to start looking at our great Lord.
God knew we were sinners ands still decided to die on the cross for us. Lately on social media I have been seeing a lot of stays that says "Jesus loves that hot mess of yours." GOD LOVES us because he sees Jesus's PERFECTION in us. Now, I haven't figured out how to deal with body imagine, as a high schooler it is hard. But I do think that the Bible is the first place I need to start. Our sinful nature will always be with us because we are mankind. We will continue to sin every day, so no I don't have a direct answer for you. Maybe it's the fact we don't or shouldn't be focusing on that. "Because tight abs, perfect legs, and soft skin are not the standard. HE IS." (Jordan Lee). One of my favorite quotes! Hope you all enjoyed. - Brittany oder Her, here.
